Ballarat Suicide Support Groups

The Ballarat and District Suicide Prevention Network Inc was initiated in 2011 with assistance from Wesley Mission Lifeforce, who received funding from the Department of Health and Ageing to respond to the National Suicide Prevention Strategy.

Our network comprises community, government and service providers who all share a common aim; to aid suicide awareness, suicide prevention and suicide bereavement support in our community, reduce the impact of suicide and to bring together members to facilitate partnerships and empower outcomes.

Also involved in the network are those who have personal experiences; including those bereaved through losing a loved one to suicide. There is a common thread with all members – to make a difference, create awareness and reduce stigma associated with suicide. We support people right across the Ballarat District, including Buninyong, Ballan, Daylesford, Beaufort, Gordon, Meredith and Elaine.

The Ballarat and District Suicide Prevention Network Inc. works within the community to provide support and connection to services that support those experiencing depression, mental health issues and to reduce the impact of suicide. With the collective strength of those network representatives, including qualified mental health practitioners, health community services and affiliated services, we aim to provide inspiration, connection and support to our community.

Through advice, suicide prevention and support after suicide, building suicide awareness and fundraising, the Ballarat and District Suicide Prevention Network aims to reduce the impact of suicide in our community. Our initiatives include the rapidly growing Out Of The Shadows Ballarat suicide walk.

The Ballarat and District Suicide Prevention Network Inc. is a not for profit service committed to helping people who have been impacted by suicide. This includes people who are struggling with suicidal thoughts and people who are concerned about, or who have sadly lost a loved one to suicide.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to develop locally driven and locally focused suicide prevention strategies and to bring together community members, service providers and local government agencies to work towards reducing the impact of suicide in the community.

Our Objectives

  • Raise awareness and challenge stigma, myths and pre-conceived ideas of suicide.
  • Facilitate partnerships between local organisations and the community in Ballarat suicide prevention
  • Make suicide prevention resources more readily identified and accessible.
